Enhancing Outdoor Access in Braemar: Path Maintenance Campaigns Project Update for 2024

Braemar Tracks and Paths (BTAP), a passionate group of volunteers and community members, is dedicated to improving the network of paths in and around Braemar. Their mission is to create accessible and enjoyable routes for all users, from walkers and cyclists to those with mobility aids.

Recent Highlights

• Society Bridge Improvements: A vital connection in Braemar’s path network, the Society Bridge underwent much-needed repairs thanks to funding from the Cairngorms Trust and the Community Hydro Fund. This project replaced rotten timber treads and improved access with landscaping, ensuring safer and more accessible routes for all, including families and individuals with mobility challenges.
• Creag Choinnich Path Upgrade: Funding from the Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA) facilitated upgrades to the upper section of the UDE19 path. These enhancements have improved surface quality and accessibility, making it easier for diverse users to enjoy the route from the village to Queen’s Drive via the bird hide.
• Volunteer Maintenance Days: Local volunteers played a critical role in clearing drainage, improving boggy sections, and enhancing the Birch Wood path, showcasing the power of community collaboration.

Looking Ahead to 2025

BTAP has ambitious plans for the coming year, including:

• New Maps and Signage: Collaborating with CNPA to improve path navigation and signage.
• Strategic Planning: Integrating feedback from the Heritage Horizons Project to refine their long-term strategy.
• Community Engagement: Organising more maintenance days and expanding volunteer opportunities.
