7 projects to receive funding
Badenoch Shinty Memories to plant groves of native broad leave trees mixed with scots pine near five shinty grounds. They will be working with the local shinty clubs and other organisations. The Shinty memories group uses archives and other local resources to help people with dementia and people living with other mental health issues such as depression, remoteness and loneliness.
Tomintoul and Glenlivit Development Trust develop an energy audit to create a net zero campsite within the Tomintoul area. Oli Giles says ‘Tomintoul and Glenlivet Development Trust are grateful to the Cairngorm Trust for this grant that will enable us to ‘bake in’ a plan for net zero to our ambitious plans for a touring style campsite in Tomintoul. The campsite represents the latest development by TGDT to ensure our area responds to the challenges of COVID and with our exciting plans for the new Dark Sky Park will make Tomintoul and Glenlivet a must for any visitor to the Cairngorms National Park’.

Scotland The Big Picture to create a wetlands nature habitat at Lynamer. “Transforming a reedy farm field into a dynamic wetland will deliver significant benefits to a range of species. SCOTLAND: The Big Picture created the Northwoods Rewilding Network of farms, crofts and community landholdings for exactly this type of initiative. Wandering Workshops to provide bursary places for residents of the Cairngorms on their winter workshops looking at behavioural change and climate change through connections to the mountains and ski and split board touring.
Kincraig Junior Shinty Club to replace their shinty goals and buy additional junior shinty equipment.
Grassroots of Kingussie to provide a ‘shop talk’ series of interactive workshops to encourage care for the Cairngorms, the communities and the planet. Looking at environmentally-friendly options available in all areas of their lives. They are also planning to do a feasibility study in Kingussie on the potential for community car schemes, particularly for electric cars.
