Cairngorms Youth Artist in Residence

10 Feb, 2022

Cairngorm Youth Artist in Residence funded by the Cairngorms youth LAG

Are you aged 18-30 and have a connection to the Cairngorms National Park? Do you live here, did you grow up here or just outside the Park?

The Cairngorm Youth Action Team (CYAT) have an exciting opportunity for a young artist to spend one week at Inshriach Bothy and some time at home in March, developing a piece of art.

The residency will take place from 17th March- 24th March 2022. Travel and food expenses for the week, and materials costs will be paid for.

Your art can be in any medium, we would love to hear your ideas! We’re looking for work that connects to the people, place, landscape or environment of the Cairngorms. We would like you to produce a shareable piece of art following your residency. Eg. Physical piece, film or audio, etc.

We are looking for artists to focus on one or more of our themes:

-Sustainability, biodiversity and addressing the climate emergency

-Skills Development

-Inter-generational projects

-Art, creativity and culture

-Nature Connection

-Fun

-Building community, networks, and interactions between people

-Inclusion and underrepresented groups

We want to hear about you and your art. How this residence would benefit your artistic development, and why you’d like this opportunity in the Cairngorms. What does the area mean to you and will this be reflected in your art? Let us know how your art fits our themes and how you will use your time in the bothy and at home to develop this.

Include your name, age, contact details and where you live.

Confirm if you would be happy for us to share your completed art and be involved in promotion.

Applications will be scored according to the following criteria:

  • How shareable is the artwork?
  • How closely does the work align with our themes?
  • How far will the residency contribute to the young artists career?
  • Where does the Young Artist live? Higher scores will go to those who live within or close to the Cairngorms National Park; Second preference will be for those who live within the 50 mile radius and have a connection to the National Park
