February 2019

5 Jun, 2019

In February 2019 the Cairngorms LAG approved funding under the LEADER 2014-20 programme for the following projects:

Howe of Torbeg: £32,950.24 to diversify Howe of Torbeg and install new facilities: ‘the wee studio’, a space where a programme of workshops focused on creative and environmental activities will be delivered. ‘The cabin’, a small communal indoor space which will complement the wee studio and offer somewhere for guests to cook and eat, and the ‘Shepherds Hut’, a unique off-grid accommodation unit which will focus on encouraging guests to visit the National Park whilst experiencing off-grid, helping to reduce carbon footprint living. This unit will also be offered for two nights a month for respitality stays as part of the wider community benefit of the project.

Community 1st: £36,181.08 to create a soft play centre which will be aimed at children under 5 years old, and will provide an opportunity for parents to socialise while allowing their children to play in a community facility open to all. The second part of this project involves the creation of a community cinema. The cinema will target all members of the community including showings of children’s movies, youth group showings, a ‘cinema club’ and afternoons targeted for ‘dementia friendly’ afternoon classics. A cafe will also be developed for both elements of this project.

Cairngorm School of Dance: £57,499.12 to fit-out 3 dance studios for the local and surrounding communities, to allow the dance school to grow and develop its service offering. The dance school will be able to expand their programme and deliver classes to a much wider audience, including dance therapy for the elderly and disabled through partnerships with the local school and care centre.

Multi-trails: Sustainable Construction, Management and Promotion of Multi-User Trails: £4,800.00 to share innovative techniques and best practice for the construction, promotion and management of mixed-use trails. This project is a transnational cooperation project between Highland and Cairngorms LAG areas in Scotland and the Sjö, Skog & Fjäll LAGs in Sweden.
