In May 2019 the Cairngorms LAG approved funding under the Campaigns Funding Programme for the following projects:
Osprey Nest, Boat of Garten: £8,500 to build a platform for an osprey nest in Milton Loch. Further enhancements include raising the water level of the loch to improve the habitat for fish, which will attract the ospreys and many water birds that breed along the edges of the loch, and erect golden eye boxes close to the loch. To promote the environment they also plan to build ‘The Ark of Caledon’ which will involve building an ark as a living willow sculpture which will be interpreted with information on the importance of habitat and climate change, and tell the story of the osprey.
Path Network Improvement, Kingussie: £10,000 to replace and upgrade the signage along 8 local marked paths, and repair, resurface, and reroute the priority sections of the paths identified by the recent survey conducted by volunteer members. The primary aim is to provide high quality footpaths to reflect the increasing popularity of the routes, as evidenced by the response of the local population and also by the recognition in guidebooks and newspaper articles.
